The Experience Golf Team

Bethpage Black is ready and roaring for the Ryder Cup in late September 2025, and Team USA heads in strong, feeling the weight of expectation. After Europe’s emotional win in Rome in 2023, the Americans are fired up to bring the Cup back home. With the crowd on their side and a blend of seasoned veterans and rising talents, USA looks dangerous - but Bethpage is a very demanding test, so composure under pressure will matter as much as power.

Captain and Vice-Captains

Keegan Bradley was named U.S. captain back in July 2024. He’s one of the younger Ryder Cup skippers and brings energy, a strong sense of team spirit, and experience in major tournaments. Supporting him are five vice-captains: Jim Furyk, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Kevin Kisner, and Gary Woodland. These are all respected figures, many with Ryder Cup pedigree or big tournament success, who will help with pairing strategy, match-play tactics, and keeping morale high when the pressure builds.

The U.S. Team

Scottie Scheffler leads the way for the Americans. As the world number one, coming off several big wins including majors, he is their anchor. He has Ryder Cup experience, but this time the pressure’s even higher: as one of the most in-form golfers in the world, many will expect him to deliver.

Xander Schauffele is another automatic qualifier who brings steadiness, multiple Tour wins, and consistency in big events. Though he’s had some recent interruptions off course, he’s a proven performer in match play.

J.J. Spaun, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau rounded out the automatic qualifiers. Each has a different style - DeChambeau with the power game, English with steadiness, Henley with past Ryder Cup moments, Spaun with momentum. That mix gives Bradley tools in different formats: foursomes, four-balls, singles.

Captain Bradley picked six more to complete the roster: Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, Ben Griffin, and Cameron Young. Thomas brings experience, big shot making, and past pressure moments. Morikawa has been sharp in majors and is cool under pressure. Patrick Cantlay offers consistency even when form wobbles; Sam Burns and Ben Griffin add current form and momentum, and Cameron Young, more recently breaking through, adds youthful energy and less to lose.

What USA Brings and What to Watch

One of USA’s strengths is the depth: they have solid automatic qualifiers and captain’s picks that cover different styles - power hitters, shot makers, cool-headed grinders. That gives Bradley flexibility in pairings. Some will be tested more heavily in foursomes where alternate shot punishes mistakes; others will need to win head-to-head in pressure singles.

Another storyline is how well the newer or less seasoned players (like Griffin, Young) perform. Sometimes rookies or newly big names are dangerous precisely because they come in with freshness and fewer expectations. But the experienced players will need to carry when the going gets tough.

Then there’s the course itself. Bethpage Black demands length off the tee, penal rough, and good short game under fire. The U.S. players will hope they can lean on power and familiarity with similar conditions. But they also need mental toughness - noise, weather, every hole is a test. USA hasn’t dropped the Cup at home recently, so they’ll be keen to make Bethpage their fortress.

USA’s Chances at Bethpage Black

With talent, depth, crowd support, and course fit, team USA have all the ingredients. If Scheffler is in top form, and the rookies can step up, USA could dominate early (foursomes and four-balls) and keep enough momentum for singles. But Europe’s experience, especially in hostile environments, shouldn’t be underestimated.

If Bradley gets the pairings right, keeps the team confident, and avoids letting early nerves do damage, USA has probably more pressure than Europe, but also more opportunity. This might come down to margins - a missed putt, a bad tee shot in alternate shot, a volatile moment. USA will need to minimise errors, stay steady, and deliver when it counts; if they do, Bethpage could be their stage.
