Dalmahoy West Golf Course
Dalmahoy's West Course is regarded as the easier, shorter and more manageable sister course compared to that of the East. The course, although the smaller of the two, packs a punch, as it has an excellent mix of challenging holes which will test your accuracy off the tee and your short game around the greens. The feistier younger sibling, in short!
The course offers the option to play a shorter 9 or 13 holes due to its winding course design.
Whilst ideal for beginners, it still proves to be a true test of golf. It's a clever parkland layout, that demands precision and strategy.
A Brief History
- The West Course offers a good blend of challenge and accessibility, making it a popular choice for golfers of varying abilities.
- The course is also a member of the European Tour and has been the site of various major events
- The Loch Lomond Whiskies Scottish PGA Championship returned to the Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club for the first time since 1996
Featured Hole: 16th
Approximately 150 yards form the back tee, the 16th hole is narrow, well-protected green that's tricky to hit and hold. Note that there is a water hazard (a stream or small burn) that runs in front or alongside, creating a psychological and physical barrier too. Golfers must also navigate the severe slope around the green that punishes over-clubbing or inaccurate approaches - anything short can trickle back and anything long can roll off into rough or a bunker!
Known For: A Strategic Game with a View
It's a challenging links-style course with undulating fairways, deep bunkers, and fast greens. Yet its location makes it a parkland course worthy of a visit, nestled in woodland with views toward the Forth Bridges and Edinburgh Castle. It's visually pleasing while still providing a solid test.
