Dalmahoy East Golf Course
The East Course at Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club, designed by James Braid in 1927, located in the picturesque countryside near Edinburgh is a course to add to your next Scotland trip.
The Dalmahoy East course is demanding, with a combination of raw power and a precise short game needed to be able to score. The fairways are wide and mostly forgiving, with a few cunningly placed bunkers by Mr Braid, so you’re able to open the shoulders and really go for it on most tees. The greens are large and receptive, meaning you should have a large target to aim at if you can keep the ball in play off the tee.
A Brief History
- The East Course has hosted major events such as the:
- Solheim Cup – 1992
- The Scottish PGA Championship – 1981-1985 & 1993-1996
- Scottish Seniors Open – 2006 – 2008
- W.D. & H.O. Wills Tournament – 1970-1972
Following a renovation in 2005, two new holes were added – the 13th & 14th. This renovation resulted in a 7,400-yard course from the Championship tees, however the course is usually set at a more manageable 6,684 yards.
Featured Holes: 13th and 14th
Both are now two of the signature holes alongside the impressive 18th, a par-3 with a green surrounded by water. These two holes are much tighter with narrower fairways and plenty of hazards to avoid.
Known As: 'The Beast'
Dalmahoy's East Course, as mentioned, is classic James Braid-designed championship parkland course. It's informally known as 'The Beast' as it brutally tests at the back tees yet playable from shorter markers. A scenic, strategically rich layout set in mature woodland, its distinguished tournament history and consistent glowing feedback from golfers at all levels makes it a must-play.
