About Princes Golf Club

The course has a 27-hole layout, divided into three 9-hole challenges - The Shore, The Dunes and the marvellously-named Himalayas None. This layout originates from a redesign in 1950 after the original course was badly damaged in the Second World War. This redesign planned for a centrally-located clubhouse, and was opened in 1985 by Peter Alliss. The 27 holes can be played in three loops of nine holes, each of which start and finish next to the new clubhouse. The legendary Gary Player and Phil Mickelson are both honorary life members of Prince's Golf Club.

The old clubhouse can still be found at the entrance to the course, next to the 14th tee of Royal St. George's. It has been completely renovated, and since 2012, The Lodge, as it is now known, provides 38 bedrooms, a brasserie and a lodge.

Featured Holes

It’s impossible to select only one hole when there are 27 to choose from, so we’ll select one from each of the 9-hole loops.

The Shore: A fairway with pronounced undulations makes the first a tough (but fair) start to your round. You’ll need to hit your tee-shot drive true and accurately to miss the menacing bunkers either side.

What about the other courses at Princes?

The Dunes: The 6th tee gives you a beautiful view of both golf courses and is the start of the excellent par 5 with hazards to both left and right of the green. You’ll need all your skill to keep on the straight and narrow!

The Himalayas Nine: The 6th is the longest hole of the 27. At 580 yards, it’s a true par 5 for all golfers, with a marshland water feature to round off the challenge. Before you tee off here, make sure you take in the spectacular view across Pegwell Bay. We haven’t even mentioned the jewel in the crown - the new par 3 'Bloody Point' located at the far end of the course. This short hole, set against the backdrop of the sea requires pin-shot accuracy to stay on the raised green (rather than overrunning it).

Princes is also known for it's course layout, especially. The notable course architect, Martin Ebert, is responsible for much of the excellent work done on the three nine-hole courses. Famed for his work at The Royal and Ancient, he has made the most of the terrain and produced some of the finest and truest greens around. The course has a solid reputation among amateurs and professionals alike. Finally, don’t miss out on the beautiful panoramic views of the English Channel from the clubhouse terrace.
