A Brief History
- Golf has been played here for more than a century
- The first course on the site was laid out by Lord Ailsa, who commissioned Willie Fernie to design an 18-holer in 1901
- The re-named Kintyre course, King Robert the Bruce, opened for business in June 2017

Play King Robert the Bruce golf course and you'll discover a supreme challenge in the shape of the brand new cliff-edge ninth hole, a dramatic piece of play demanding tricky choices: should you aim heroically for the green way over the chasm, or head further along the fairway and wedge your shot into the high green? The fairway narrows before the approach shot, flying over a sandy wasteland and rated a stroke index 2, despite the prevailing wind being behind you from tee to green.
Known For: A Stunning Layout
This resort is a 36 hole golfing destination with genuine substance. Its reputation is growing fast thanks to the bunkering, which is exceptional. The opening seven are all rock solid links holes, the turf on the fairways is nice and firm, and the greens offer real putting joy. Best of all, the new holes high on Baines Hill are proper pulse-racers.
