About The Torrance Course

The Torrance is one of Scotland's most dramatic and challenging courses in St Andrews, the spiritual home of golf. Like the Kittocks course, golf carts are available as long as the weather permits.

Sam Torrance transformed the course into a challenging links layout that looks like it's been there for centuries. You'll find classic Scottish bunkers throughout, offering a formidable test of your golfing skill, and the greens are pretty tricky with their run off areas, false fronts and hollows. The 14th hole deserves particular respect, situated right on the edge of the dizzying cliffs.

Featured Hole – Hole 17

At Par 3 and 220 yards, the green at the 17th is protected by nasty, deep bunkers and a dry stone wall. It's a big favourite with Sam Torrance, the signature hole and, in many players' opinion, the best on the course. To your right there's the crashing sea and a whole lot of rough to your left. This makes the tee shot pretty tough, but when you get to your second shot there's even more nasty ground to play over.

Known for: Its Links Atmosphere and Demanding Greens

Like The Kittocks, the Torrance was built on farmland but comes with a links layout and atmosphere. The Torrance is a little less demanding than its sister course, the fairways are generous and it's relatively easy to find lost balls. Watch out for the bunkers by the green, sneakily hidden away at the front sides, especially on the short par 3s. The attractive par-3 11th has particularly beautiful distant views of St Andrews town, and the final three sea-edge holes are truly dramatic and challenging with greens playing right along the sea's edge
