Strandhill Links Course

Strandhill is a resort that lies at the western base of Knocknarea – “Moon Mountain” – a 1,000-foot high limestone mass to the southern side of Sligo Bay. An enormous stone structure, 60 yards in diameter and 30 feet high, sits at the top of the mountain. “Maeve’s Cairn” as it is called, is said to be the grave of the mythical Queen Maeve, whose father, the high King of Ireland at the time, presented her with the province of Connacht as a gift many years ago.

A Brief History

• Strandhill Golf Club opened in 1931 and extended by the great Eddie Hackett in the 1970's; where members were able to play on a 9-hole layout for over forty years until Eddie Hackett extended the course to 18 holes in 1973.
• Some of the green designs allow for severe undulations which add greatly to the challenge of playing Strandhill.
• Strandhill offers an unforgettable golf experience along Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way.
• The beautiful surroundings can be round on few other courses around the world.
• The excellent practice facilities allow golfers to practice their skills before they take on the challenge.

Featured hole – 14th

The most notable hole on the Strandhill Links Course is the 14th hole, often called "The Short Puck," a par-3 that is considered unique due to its partially blind shot and challenging green protected by large mounds on either side, requiring high accuracy to play well

Known For: Par-70 Layout 

The par-70 layout at Strandhill Golf Club serves up a unique taste of links golf, set amid the beautiful sand dunes. Be prepared to bring your best putting game, the greens here are devilish and will require the deftest of touches. The range of interesting and challenging holes keeps golfers guessing whilst still offering a fair but stern test of golf.
