This course is consistently listed in the upper 20% of the top 100 courses in the British Isles.
A Brief History
Designed by the late Eddie Hackett in1973 - considered to be one of his finest creations, Donegal Golf Club is reached via a long narrow road that takes you out to the peninsula on which it is built, leaving you no shelter from the elements.
Land in the Tullycullion townland was donated by the Temple family, owners of the world famous Magee & Co. , upon completion, the course opened in May 1960
The 180 acres of the Murvagh peninsula juts out into the Atlantic, accessed only by an avenue through forestry lands.
Featured hole – 5th Hole
Hole 5, also known as "Valley of Tears", is a notable hole at Donegal Golf Club. It's a long par 3 that's set in a dramatic amphitheater of dunes, with a raised green and a steep drop-off in front.
Other notable holes at Donegal Golf Club:
- Hole 18, Barnesmore: A daunting tee shot through a narrow valley to reach the fairway
- Hole 13, Tullycullion: A par 3 with a challenging green surrounded by bunkers on both sides
- Hole 3, Bell's Isle: A visually short par 3 with a sloped green protected by a greenside bunker and mound
- Hole 9, Murvagh: A hole where longer hitters can carry the fairway bunker
