The North course, or the Palmer Ryder Cup course, or rather "Palmer North" as it is now called, was of course designed by Arnold Palmer, opening for play in 1991. The River Liffey meanders through the property and becomes hazardous on a number of holes, especially the 8th, where it runs all the way down the left-hand side of the fairway.
There are four brilliant teeing areas to choose from. It’s strongly recommended that each guest select the right one carefully as the Palmer North course measures a whopping 7,337 yards – a very vicious course to play!
A Brief History
- Hosted the 2006 Ryder Cup
- The 2023 Irish Open among other championship tournaments were held here
- Irish Open in 2025 and 2027 to return, as well as the Irish Challenge Tour in 2024 (past) and 2026.
Featured Hole – 16th
The 16th is a monster par five, measuring nearly 600 yards from the blue tees; the hole double doglegs past all types of hazards, including trees, water, bunkers and punishing rough, and then you must find the green, fiercely protected on both sides by the River Liffey.
Other notable holes include the 7th, 8th, 16th and 18th
Known For: An established golf club
The Palmer North is one of Ireland's most established professional courses in Europe. It was the site that hosted the biggest golfing event in Irish history - the 36th edition of the Ryder Cup in 2006, as well and many notable European and Irish Opens.
