If there’s one thing golf fans can agree on, it’s that Scottish golf in July never disappoints - and this year’s Genesis Scottish Open was no exception. From dramatic weather changes (would it really be Scotland without sideways rain and sunshine in the same hour?) to a nail-biting finish, the 2025 Scottish Open delivered all the drama we all wanted, needed and hoped for!
Taking place at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, the stage for set for an exciting battle as we saw a star-studded field with eight of the world’s top ten hitting the fairways. We saw Rory Mcllroy, Robert McIntyre, Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler, to name a few, in action on the Scottish links.
Fans at The Renaissance Club were treated to some truly world-class golf across the weekend. The final round saw a tight battle among some big names, with gusty winds turning simple approach shots into nerve-wracking tests of precision. In the end, it was Chris Gotterup who lifted the trophy after a brilliant closing stretch, proving once again why the Scottish Open is a must-watch on the golf calendar.
This year’s winner, Chris Gotterup - who was ranked 158 coming into the Scottish Open - has rocketed up to No. 49 following his second career PGA Tour win over the weekend. Shooting a composed final-round 66 to finish at -15, he not only edged out career Grand Slam holder Rory McIlroy but also secured his spot at The Open Championship at Royal Portrush this week.
Beyond the leaderboard, the Scottish Open remains a fan favourite because of the atmosphere. There’s something special about watching the world’s best navigate classic links conditions, all while thousands of fans brave the elements with smiles (and a few drams of whisky) in hand.
Next Stop: The Open at Royal Portrush
With the Scottish Open wrapped up, all eyes now turn to Royal Portrush for The Open Championship 2025. Northern Ireland’s iconic links is ready to welcome the world’s best as they battle for the Claret Jug.
Royal Portrush last hosted The Open in 2019 - and who could forget Shane Lowry’s incredible victory amid roaring local crowds? The Dunluce Links promises another unforgettable week of golf, with its rolling fairways, punishing rough, and breathtaking coastal views. Players who handled the Scottish winds well will certainly fancy their chances here, but Portrush is known for humbling even the steeliest pros.
The 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon was captured by Xander Schauffele, who shot a brilliant final-round 65 to finish at -9, two strokes ahead of Justin Rose and Billy Horschel.
Coming into the 2025 event, Rory McIlroy will be playing on home soil at Royal Portrush, with the home crowd firmly behind him. After his runner-up finish at the Scottish Open last week, we expect him to be right in the mix again. And of course, who can forget the current world No. 1 - Scottie Scheffler. With exceptional precision and the ability to handle the pressure of a major Sunday, you can never rule him out of the running.
Expect drama, heartbreak, and some truly heroic shot-making. The Open isn’t just golf - it’s golf at its purest, and Portrush brings out the best (and worst) in everyone’s game.
